Tae Kwon Do Master Seeks a Few Good Students to Coach to Possible Olympic Gold

Edvart Warzhapetian began training in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 11. He earned his first black belt after only a year-and-a-half in training because he was so driven.

He went on to earn European and World Championships and is now Master Edward at the prestigious Lions Tae Kwon Do Academy in Sherman Oaks, California. He is now part of the advisory team for Sportamix, and he hopes to pass along his knowledge to up-and-coming martial arts students. Maybe even taken them to the Olympics.

Master Edward has led students to the World Championship and Olympic trials in the past, and he has coached more than a couple of rising stars and winning international stars.

“I heard about Sportamix from a friend and I thought it was a great way to find new talent and good students,” Master Edward said. “There are a lot of different martial arts and the main problem is that it’s hard to find the right talent and for the beginning athlete, it’s hard to find where to go.”

Master Edward is part of the team of advisors for Sportamix that include sports legends like agent Leigh Steinberg, four-time Olympic Gold swimmer Lenny Kravzelburg, former Lightweight MMA Fighter Yves Edwards, and Christy Curtis Buss of the Laker’s owner family, among others.

By the time Master Edward was 14, he was invited to the Junior National Team because of his success in tournaments, and he competed all over the world and trained with some of the top Tae Kwon Do fighters in the world.

“I want to look for students to train and cross train,” Master Edward said. “I want to pass down some knowledge and challenges in the sport.”

Looking for a new generation to teach, he worked with Grand Master Byun to create a school. Lion’s Tae Kwon Do Academy now has stature nationally and internationally where students won many tournaments. The school opened in 2007 and expanded twice.

He coached several state and regional competitions, he was recognized by the World Tae Kwon Do Federation for developing and popularizing the sport. Now he wants to give back to get help that he sorely missed.

“When I got to the United States  I came after winning a World Championship and I was looking for a school to train in and people I knew in the United States had no idea what school was good or not,” Master Edward said.  He said getting knowledge on the Sportamix site could help students pick a teacher and perhaps a coach can find a protégé.

“Sportamix has a section for different sports, and it has quite a wide variety and range of sports,” Master Edward said.

“This gives the chance to find the right person to train with and be noticed,” Master Edward noted. “This way, the athletes and coaches can put themselves out there for acquisition.”
